Summer ORCA

Summer ORCA (Oak Ridge City Aquatics) is a summer swim team for children ages 5-18. Swimmers must be able to swim 100 yards unassisted to participate. A swim test will be given the first day. The fee is $100.00 per swimmer and a non-resident fee of $10.00 if applicable. Swimmers will participate in workout sessions Monday - Friday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the outdoor pool. Swimmers will also participate in GKAISA league swim meets with dates and times TBA. Swimmers must have a signed release and fees paid to participate. For further information call the Recreation and Parks Department at 425-3450. The forms below may be printed, filled out, and returned with applicable fees beginning May 4th.

Indoor and Outdoor Pool Swim Lessons

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department offers American Red Cross swimming classes through out the year as pool time and staffing permit. Participants must be between the ages of 4 - 18 years old. These classes are for swimmers in levels 1-6. To find out more information about requirements for various swimming levels check out our Level Placement Guide and our Flow Chart. Registration is at the Civic Center Front Desk. Payment is due at the time of registration. For further information please call the Recreation and Parks Department, 425-3450 or email us at swimlessons@cortn.org. Enrollment is limited. The cost is $55 for 8 thirty minute sessions. Classes are held four days a week for 2 weeks. There will be no make-up classes if cancelled for weather related reasons. There is also a once per year $10 non-resident fee for children who live outside of Oak Ridge.

Guard Start

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is offering the American Red Cross “Guard Start” program. Guard Start is a course to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards. This program also teaches prevention, fitness, response, leadership, and professionalism. The Guard Start program is for children 11 years of age to 14 years of age. Each participant must be a skilled swimmer, at least level V in American Red Cross swimming program. They must be able to swim the front crawl 25 yards continuously with correct breathing. Also be able to tread water for 1 minute, and submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet under water. The sessions are Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm. The fee is $75. Registration is at the Civic Center Front Desk. Payment is due at the time of registration. The last day each participant will be paired with a working lifeguard to experience the actual job responsibilities. The participants are responsible for providing their own lunch. Regular Registration

Walk in registration will begin on May 4th at the Civic Center Front desk and will continue until all spaces are filled. For more information on available class times, please click on the application form below. Feel free to print a copy of each form so that it can be filled out and ready to turn in with applicable fees when you register. If you have other questions, feel free to call 425-3450.
