2010 Census

The 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour visits Oak Ridge.
On January 21, 2010, the 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour visited the Oak Ridge Civic Center to provide participants with information about the 2010 Census and discuss how participation in the this year's census can have a positive impact on their community. This tour is the largest civic outreach and awareness campaign in U.S. history, traveling 1,547 days for more than 150,000 miles across the country providing the public with an educational, engaging and interactive experience that brings the 2010 Census to life.
Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan was invited to speak at the event and he stressed the importance of having this census data, particularly to Oak Ridge, as well as encouraging everyone to complete and return the census form when it arrives. The census form is expected to arrive in mailboxes March 15-17.
Attendees at the Road Tour were also give an opportunity to tour the "Mail it Back," national vehicle which contained interactive exhibits and provided information about the importance of the census while encouraging participation. The vehicle will continue to travel across the country till April 2010. It is also important to note that April 1, 2010 is Census Day.
The 2010 Cenus form is the shortest in history with only 10 questions, taking an estimated 10 minutes to complete. Also, the form comes with a postage-paid return envelope making it easier for individuals to mail back.
